A Detailed Overview Of Baltimore, Maryland
By: Matty Mathias
Baltimore, Maryland, isn't just crabs any longer ...
Over the course of the past generation, Baltimore, Maryland, really has "come into its own." Once an industrial mecca (Baltimore is the U.S. seaport that is located closest to the huge Midwestern markets and their agricultural and related products), Baltimore has been transformed into an amazing cultural and entertainment center in recent times. Moreover, the business segment of Baltimore society has also changed markedly. No longer is the iconic Bethlehem Steele the largest employer in this Maryland city. Rather, John Hopkins University and John Hopkins Medical Center have this designation.
Health care and medicine make up a significant element of the business sector of Baltimore today. This includes a wide range of medical specialists and clinics that deal with such matters as varicose veins, advanced vein treatment and the treatment of venous disease. Research and practical medical application are major endeavors in this particular city by the sea (again, including specialists that deal with varicose veins, advanced vein treatment and the treatment of venous disease.
Commencing at the start of the 21st century, Baltimore has experienced something of a renaissance. This includes the construction of three large, luxury hotel properties as well as a revitalization of the downtown area of the city. Indeed, beyond the downtown section of the city, Baltimore long has been dubbed the "city of neighborhoods" with over 300 distinct districts making up the community. As a result, there are innumerable historic sites and points of interest throughout the city.
The performing arts play a large role in Baltimore. From the highly regarded Baltimore Symphony Orchestra to live theater at a number of different venues, people travel to Baltimore to take in these interesting and entertaining cultural offerings.
Shopping and dining opportunities abound in the city as well. There are a number of expansive retail centers that offer the latest in clothing, housewares and so forth. In addition, within the various districts that make up Baltimore, a person can find quaint and unique shops that cater to an eclectic palate of tastes and interests.
Of course, being a coastal community, seafood remains king at Baltimore's bistros. However, in the 21st century, Baltimore is not longer known just for its crab. Rather, there are many ethnic restaurants as well as other types of venues that offer any type of dining experience imaginable. In addition, Baltimore nightlife is lively and engaging with a variety of different clubs and pubs in operation across the city today.
Higher education also plays a significant role in the day to day life of Baltimore. With well over a dozen different institutions of higher learning a significant segment of the population of the city is either being educated or is involved in teaching or research at one or another of these colleges or universities. (Again, a good deal of institutional research in the city is geared towards health concerns that include everything for diseases to other conditions and procedures like varicose veins, advanced vein treatment and the treatment of venous disease.)
