 Although a good part of the state includes communities that serve as the home bases for men and women who spend their workdays in the nation's capital, Maryland is much more than an appendage of the District of Columbia. Indeed, oftentimes overlooked in the 1970s and 1980s, beginning in the 1990s and moving onward into the 21st century, Maryland really has become a destination of distinction for people from all walks of life looking to find homes in a state that has much to offer.

Of course, Maryland is a state with a tremendously rich history. From colonial venues to Civil War sites to other exciting and interesting points of interest, both residents of and visitors to Maryland have a great deal to enjoy. This includes at array of museums, many of which are located in Baltimore as well as in the bedroom communities outside the District of Columbia.

Entertainment, dining and recreational opportunities also abound in Maryland. For example, being a Chesapeake Bay state, water sports of different types are fond pastimes for the residents of Maryland. In addition, a great deal of effort and energy has been spent preserving the scenic natural wonders of the state. Therefore, there are both state managed and national parks and preserves in the state that provide ample space for a whole host of out of door recreational options including camping, hunting, hiking and the like.

Indeed, the economy of the state being based upon a wide array of different types of business enterprises is well constructed to withstand economic downturns that plague other states in the U.S.A. today.

Healthcare is also a major industry across the State of Maryland. This includes some of the highest regarded medical centers in the Northeast as well research institutions associated with Maryland based colleges and universities. At outgrowth of the presence of a significant healthcare research and industry presence in the state, many residents have become more active about their own medical and healthcare needs.

Consequently, the state has become renowned for providing people with the latest, cutting edge technology designed to diagnose and treat a wide array of medical conditions.
